Reboot Review: Bit Literacy - A New Strategy for Productivity in Your Bit-drenched Life

03 June 2006

Mark Hurst presented on how we can manage the increasing amount of information being pushed upon us, not least by email.

I was a little disappointed by Marks talk, having initially been interested in what he had to say I got the impression that the talk was turning into a product pitch for his productivity app. Mark did caveat his discussion of the app, suggesting that it wasn’t for people like us but rather a new strategy for less technically competent people to pursue in managing their digital life. Added to this, it seemed that the talk was straying towards areas covered by David Allens “Getting things done” productivity philosophy, which Mark did acknowledge.

One interesting side effect of this session occurred in the IRC back-channel, where a group of people joined together and arranged an informal talk on their own personal productivity methods. Utilising the un-conference attitude of Reboot we were able to edit the wiki and book a room within a matter of seconds, really amazing stuff.
